About My Blog

Who Is This Blog For?

The Tech Writing Blog is for you if:

  • You are new to the role of tech writer, maybe fell into the job instead of seeking it out, and now find yourself looking for answers to some basic questions—like where to start.
  • You are alone, with no team of tech writers to support you, offer advice, or help you brainstorm.
  • You have scoured the Web for help and discovered that many sites target senior writers doing fancy documentation with expensive tools at big companies—but hardly any offer on-going help to junior writers.

What Are My Blog Goals?

On The Tech Writing Blog, I will:

  • Discuss technical writing basics—concepts, skills, tools, strategies, and resources.
  • Discuss the job of technical writer—your role, your opportunities, your challenges.
  • Provide practical advice and examples.
  • Cover the great debates (to serial comma, or not to serial comma?) but set down guidelines for beginners to follow.
  • Build a Good Tech Writing handbook and style guide as I go—something you can use until your company creates its own.
  • Answer questions, provoke discussions, and help you help each other.

Plus… anything else I think might help you.
